Sports are a big deal at Riverview. We have intra-school sports teams
as well as inter-school sports teams at both Junior and Intermediate levels. All the teams at our school are called the Riverview LIONS.
Our teams are very good and we DO roar! Soccer has taken the place of baseball and students try out for basketball, volleyball and cross country.
In September, our school year starts off with cross country running. Students who run locally at the school level compete
against runners from other schools in our attendance area. Our school usually sends a group of enthusiastic runners to the cross country
meet in Thunder Bay, where many do very well.
During the fall there is soccer and that runs into volleyball and basketball.
Our school teams often win top spot or end up within the top three. You can be sure that when
Riverview does not bring back a top spot placement it was not because they did not try their best!
Apart from the teams who compete for Riverview against other school teams, there is class versus class team play for all students
who wish to participate and games are played during nutrition breaks. Players get to have their snacks though when they are finished even
if they are in class!
Within the school day, physical education classes generally offer some form of these sports
as well as other physical activities to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Some teachers
take their students skiing during the winter at the Dryden Ski club or skating at the Dryden arena. Riverview students and teachers cover it all!
