The Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum is taught at all levels in Riverview School.
This includes subjects such as Math, English, Science, French as a Second Language, Social Studies in the
lower classes (becomes History and Geography in the upper classes), Physical Education (which includes Health
and Safety issues), Art, Music, Drama, and Computer.
Students in Grades 3 and 6 participate in EQAO testing. Grades 4 and 8 complete an "across the board" Computer Assessment.
Reading and writing assessments take place and students are all aided in being "the best they can be" at Riverview with evaluation taking place
so that if the need is there, students can improve their educational performance, with appropriate help. As in all KPDSB schools, literacy and numeracy are given
great attention, with teachers meeting regularly to enhance the learning process, by working together as teams in order to stay on
the same path.
Riverview offers challenge to all students in all curricular areas with such activities as Science Fair,
Historica Fair, occasional Fridays when Electives take up the afternoon, visiting presentations (often interactive with the student audience)
by many diverse groups, annual Christmas productions which have often been musical affairs, play days run by
the students for the students, a variety of "clubs" such as engineering, environmental,

chess and others, out-trips for a variety of curriculum related reasons, reading buddies, lunch helpers,
milk monitors, sports refereeing, inter-school and intra-school team sports as well as leadership activities such
as being Student Leaders in the Junior and Intermediate grades, and in Grade 8, being able to sit as Student
Representatives on our school council.
Riverview students are exposed to many academic activities both through regular class room learning and through
the other variable and diverse offerings available to them throughout the year.
